Collection of samples from patients is a crucial step in any translational study. The consent form may offer the opportunity for additional tests to be performed in the future. Also for economical reasons tests may be performed on batched samples, if stability of the compound to be measured allows this.
Proper storage of samples is of paramount importance. This includes both storage conditions and appropriate coding and database management such that samples can be retrieved un-ambiguously.
The red blood cell laboratory offers sample storage under different conditions including storage at -20°C, -80°C or in liquid nitrogen vapor (-195°C). Samples stored are recorded in a sample storage database.
